Atlantic Currents: Winds, Waters, and Migrations

CMOA Theater

Price: $5 (Members & Students Free)

Wind and water have powered migrations since the beginning of history. Ideas, people, plants and animals, pollution, and climate move on global currents and create new currents of thought, culture, and ecology wherever they land.

Join us for a discussion at the nexus of art, oceanography, and ecology as we look at the modern history of the Atlantic currents and how they drive a changing world. Leading us in this rich, multi-disciplinary conversation are Marcus Rediker, distinguished professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh; John Wenzel, director of Powdermill Nature Reserve; Michael Mann, distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Penn State and director of the Penn State Earth System Science Center; and Lulu Lippincott, curator of fine arts at Carnegie Museum of Art.

“Rediker’s books are a first-rate example of history told from the bottom up.”
